Gutsy installs as default madwifi + restricted wifi drivers and network-manager. I have long preferred ndiswrapper to madwifi for performance and stability and under 64-bit gutsy, this aspect remains. I used these user-maintained instructions (which appear to updated nearly daily) for the ndiswrapper install; recommended. Today I have just switched from network-manager to Wicd, thanks in big part to Chess Griffin (a nearby neighbor) at LinuxReality podcast.
