I’m commonly asked; “What about SFI?” The Sustainable Forest Management program is essentially an industry-based initiative that attempts to counter FSC. For most, the compound word in the last sentence tells them all they need to know. I haven’t implemented SFI (and would be happy to help you do so if you’re so inclined) but I would recommend against it. The key motivator is what does the print buyer want? FSC has done a much better job of defining, launching and now maintaining their standard, and that it will continue to position itself at the forefront going forward.

Gratis, here’s an admittedly biased comparison of the two. Yale hosts an older study, (2004) but both standards have updated so as to moot the comparison.
